A riverside hotel at the Caw Roundabout on the Waterside, a few minutes from the Foyle Bridge. It is licensed for civil ceremonies, so the whole day can happen under one roof.

With ceremony and reception in one place there is no travel gap, which leaves more time for portraits and more of your guests on camera. If you would like the river in your film, plan ten minutes outside before the meal.

A four-star Hastings hotel on Prehen Road, about five minutes from the city centre, overlooking the River Foyle towards the Donegal hills. The Grand Ballroom seats up to 420, with smaller suites for more intimate days.

A big ballroom means big speeches. Good audio matters most in a room this size, so microphones go on the speakers and the top table rather than relying on the house PA alone.

Four things to check, from behind the camera
None of these should decide your venue. They are simply worth knowing before the day, because they shape how it looks and sounds afterwards.
Light
Where are the windows in the ceremony room, and which way will you face? Ask to see the room at the time of day you will be in it.
Sound
Is there a PA for speeches, and who runs it? Listen for anything that hums: bar fridges, air conditioning, a road outside.
Space
Is there somewhere close by for portraits if it rains? A covered entrance or a quiet lounge can save twenty minutes of your drinks reception.
House rules
Some venues and churches limit where a filmmaker can stand, or whether a drone can fly. Ask early and pass the answer on.
